Last updated 10 October 2026

TripOrTrip plans trips across trains, coaches and flights. You can use it without an account, and we keep as little about you as the service needs. This page says what we keep, why, for how long, and who else sees it.

Who we are

TripOrTrip runs this site and decides what happens to the data described here.

Visit statistics (no cookies, no consent needed)

To see which parts of the site work and where searches fail, we count visits ourselves. We do not use cookies or store anything on your device for this, and we cannot tell whether two visits are from the same person. For each visit we record:

  • the pages opened, and the website you came from (its name only, not the page);
  • campaign tags in the link you followed (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign);
  • your country, worked out from your IP address, and the first language your browser asks for. The IP address itself is not stored;
  • the kind of device, browser and operating system, such as "mobile, Safari, iOS". The full browser description is not stored;
  • what happened to a search (how many routes, how long it took, whether it failed), which route you opened, sort and filter changes, and which carrier's site a "Buy" button took you to;
  • errors in the page (by name, never their text) and how fast the page loaded.

We never record what you type. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving the service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). These records are deleted after six months. Nothing is counted if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, and you can switch it off here:

Your visits are counted as described above.

To remember this choice, the browser keeps one small entry (tt-stats-optout). It holds your choice and nothing else.

Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics (only if you agree)

With your consent, we also use Microsoft Clarity, which records clicks and scrolling, and Google Analytics. Both set cookies and send data to Microsoft and Google, including to the United States. Advertising features are off. They are not loaded until you accept the banner. You can change your answer at any time: .

Your searches and conversations

To show your conversation with the assistant again when you come back, your browser keeps a random identifier (anonymousUserId). It is not linked to your name, email or visit statistics. With it we store:

  • the messages you send and the assistant's replies;
  • the searches you run: places, dates, filters, and the routes we showed.

We use them to answer you, to show your history, to find and fix wrong results, and to estimate prices better. The legal basis is providing the service you asked for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in improving it. Please do not write personal details such as passport numbers into the chat: we do not need them.

Protecting the assistant from misuse

The assistant is free and costs us money for every message. To limit misuse, we count messages per browser and refuse requests that have nothing to do with travel. Your IP address is used for this only in a one-way scrambled form (a salted hash), which cannot be turned back into the address.

Who else sees data

  • Hetzner (Germany) hosts our servers and database.
  • Cloudflare passes every request to our servers and protects them from attacks. It sees your IP address in doing so.
  • OpenAI (United States) writes the assistant's replies and the route explanations. It receives the messages of your conversation; under its business terms it does not use them to train its models.
  • Photon / komoot finds the places you type into the search fields. Our server asks it, so it does not see your IP address.
  • Carriers and booking sites are asked by our server for live times and prices of the routes found. They receive the journeys, never anything about you. A "Buy" button takes you to the carrier's own site, where its own privacy terms apply.
  • Google Maps opens only when you press "Open map" on a transfer.

We do not sell data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to limit how we use it, or object to its use. Because we do not know who you are, we may ask you to help us find your records (for example, by sending the identifier your browser keeps). You can also complain to a data protection authority in your country.
